Patent Award for Startups and Inventors
In 2020 at the height of the COVID-19 crisis, Aurora Consulting announced the RISE Award to help small businesses and inventors through the unprecedented, challenging times. In a time of fighting for survival, we knew that IP strategies could be at risk, but we strongly felt that weathering this crisis should not come at the loss of hard-fought R&D efforts. Consistent with our mission to support emerging growth companies, we came up with the Relief for Innovative Startup Endurance (or RISE) Award to help a selected startup extend their runway by helping them freely secure a provisional patent.
Given how incredibly rewarding the entire experience was and given the problems that still plagued even a year later, we decided to bring the RISE Award back in 2021. Due to the response and circumstances of the times, we expanded the offerings beyond the single $5,000 award to include the addition of $2,500 awards to several other exceptional finalists. Over its first two years, seven startups have received no cost patent assistance from the RISE Award. We dig deeper into the history of the award and how it's helped past recipients in this month's episode of the Patently Strategic Podcast.
