Professor Adam Mossoff is a Professor of Law at the Antonin Scalia Law School at George Mason, where he teaches a wide range of courses, including property, patent law, trade secrets, trademark law, remedies, and internet law. Adam is an expert on patent law and innovation policy. He has been invited five times to testify before Congress on legislation addressing patent law and innovation policy, and his research has been relied on by the Supreme Court, by the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and by federal agencies. His writings on IP law have also appeared in the Wall Street Journal, Forbes, and the New York Times. 

Adam is a Patently Strategic regular with his monthly Mossoff Minute segment, featuring updates in innovation policy and the ongoing patent wars. Adam was part of the all-star trio we interviewed for our Patent Wars episode and also helped us understand the history of patents and their importance to society in Why Patents Exist.​

Judge Paul Michel (Ret.)
Former Chief Justice, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit

Judge Paul Michel is one of the foremost authorities in the country on matters of patent law. He served for more than 22 years on the Federal Circuit, with his final 6 years on the bench as Chief Judge of the nation’s top patent court. He judged several thousand appeals and authored more than 800 opinions, one third concerning intellectual property law. The judge is widely recognized as a seminal figure in patent law, over which the Federal Circuit has nationwide jurisdiction. Intellectual Asset Management Magazine inducted him into its Hall of Fame, and he was designated one of the 50 most influential leaders in intellectual property law in the world. He retired from a lifetime appointment to be free to speak out on the national need for better patent policy and protection of intellectual property and the vital, unmet resource needs of the courts, the PTO, the International Trade Commission, and other IP-related agencies.

Randy Landreneau is the President of US Inventor, an organization working to restore the American Patent System. US Inventor is the largest inventor advocacy group in the country and has worked diligently to push through legislation and administrative changes to protect inventors and innovative startups.

Sridhar has a long history as a serial entrepreneur in the world of connected medical devices and wearables. His first company AgaMatrix, a blood glucose monitoring company made the world’s first ever medical device to directly connect to the iPhone. Under his leadership, AgaMatrix achieved remarkable growth, securing FDA clearance for over 15 medical products, forming strategic partnerships with industry heavyweights such as Apple, Sanofi, and Walgreens, and shipping 2 billion biosensors and 6 million glucose meters. For his second act, Sridhar teamed up with John Sculley, former CEO of Apple and Pepsi, to create Misfit, a company known for crafting sleek and stylish wearable products. Misfit was acquired by Fossil in 2015 for $260M. Sridhar holds over 150 US and international patents and received his Ph.D. from Cambridge University as a Marshall Scholar. In addition to his work as a prolific inventor and founder, Sridhar is also an angel investor who has invested in over 50 startups and venture funds, with an inclination toward science-based ventures.

James Gourley is a partner at Carstens, Allen & Gourley, LLP, and a registered patent attorney with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. James served on the Dallas Bar Association's Intellectual Property Section Board before moving to Denver. He is a member of the State Bar of Texas and Colorado and is admitted to practice in the U.S. District Courts for the Northern, Southern, Eastern, and Western Districts of Texas, the District of Colorado, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court.
